What it is
Ondo Finance is a company that puts traditional financial assets on blockchains, often called tokenized real-world assets. Its products include USDY, a token backed by short-term U.S. Treasuries and bank deposits that pays yield, and OUSG, which gives eligible investors exposure to short-term Treasury funds. Ondo has also expanded into tokenized stocks and is building Ondo Chain, a permissioned network designed for institutions trading these assets.
ONDO is the governance token of the Ondo DAO. Holders vote on matters such as Flux Finance, a lending protocol connected to Ondo, along with protocol settings and community funding. It is important to understand what ONDO is not: holding it does not give you a share of Ondo Finance the company, its revenue or the Treasury yield its products earn.
The maximum supply is 10 billion ONDO, and about half was circulating by mid-2026. The rest is released on a schedule that runs through 2029, with large unlocks in January each year; about 1.94 billion tokens were released in both January 2025 and January 2026. ONDO exists on Ethereum and several other networks, including Solana.
What can go wrong
- Large yearly unlocks, each around 1.9 billion tokens in recent Januarys, add significant new supply, and distribution continues through 2029.
- ONDO does not give holders a claim on the company's profits or the Treasury yield its products earn, so the token's value can drift apart from the business's success.
- The products depend on regulated custodians, fund managers and legal structures; a problem at any of those partners could affect the tokenized assets.
- U.S. securities rules for tokenized assets are still being settled; an SEC probe into Ondo closed without charges in December 2025, but rules can still shift.

Buying ONDO is not the same as buying Ondo's Treasury products. The yield-bearing tokens are separate, usually restricted by country, and ONDO itself pays no yield.
Safety checks
- Track recordCautionTrading since 2024, about 2 years. It hasn't been through a full market cycle yet, so treat its history as short.
- Trading activityGood$141.2 million traded in the last 24 hours, 6.5% of its market value. That's enough activity that a normal-size order shouldn't move the price.
- Coins still to comeRed flag4.87 billion of 10.00 billion maximum coins are in circulation, so about 51% are still to be released. A large share hasn't been released yet. Unlocks for insiders and early backers are a common reason prices fall.
- Distance from its peakCautionDown 79% from its all-time high of $2.14 in December 2024. Many buyers from the peak are still underwater, and they often sell into any rally.
- Past yearFor context−40.1% over the past year, against −25.3% for bitcoin. It has done worse than simply holding bitcoin.
