What it is
Mantle is a layer-2 network that runs on top of Ethereum. It batches transactions together, processes them more cheaply than Ethereum's main chain, and posts the results back to Ethereum for settlement. Mantle uses zero-knowledge validity proofs (through Succinct's OP Succinct system), which mathematically prove its batches are correct instead of relying on a challenge window. Since an upgrade in April 2026 it posts its transaction data to Ethereum; before that it relied on a separate data service called EigenDA.
MNT is used to pay transaction fees on the Mantle network and to vote in Mantle governance. The token came from BitDAO, a large crypto treasury project. In 2023 BitDAO merged with Mantle, and its BIT token was converted into MNT. Mantle also runs products such as mETH, a liquid staking version of ether.
Mantle is closely tied to the Bybit exchange, which backed BitDAO from the start. In September 2025 Bybit announced a "Mantle x Bybit" roadmap that wove MNT into its trading, payment and savings products. Total supply is about 6.2 billion MNT, of which roughly 3.3 billion circulate; much of the rest sits in the Mantle treasury, controlled through governance.
What can go wrong
- A large share of supply sits in the project treasury; how and when those tokens are spent or released can dilute holders.
- The tight link with Bybit means exchange-specific events, such as the February 2025 hack of Bybit, can hit sentiment around MNT even when the Mantle network itself is unaffected.
- Mantle's system can fall back to a mode that does not require proofs, and a small group of operators still orders transactions and controls upgrades.
- Layer-2 networks compete hard for the same users and apps; Mantle has to keep attracting activity against much larger rivals.

Look at circulating supply versus total supply before judging MNT's size. Nearly half the tokens are not in circulation, and treasury decisions can change that.
Safety checks
- Track recordGoodTrading since 2023, about 3 years. It has been through at least one full market cycle.
- Trading activityCaution$21.3 million traded in the last 24 hours, 1.2% of its market value. That's thin for its size: big holders selling could move the price more than you'd expect.
- Coins still to comeRed flag3.30 billion of 6.22 billion maximum coins are in circulation, so about 47% are still to be released. A large share hasn't been released yet. Unlocks for insiders and early backers are a common reason prices fall.
- Distance from its peakRed flagDown 81% from its all-time high of $2.86 in October 2025. Most people who bought near the top have lost most of their money. A big drop doesn't make a coin cheap.
- Past yearFor context−69.9% over the past year, against −25.3% for bitcoin. It has done worse than simply holding bitcoin.
History of trouble and big events
- May 2023: BitDAO merged with Mantle Network and the BIT token was rebranded as MNT.
- Sep 2025: Bybit announced a "Mantle x Bybit" roadmap expanding MNT's uses inside the exchange.
