What it is
Jupiter is one of the most widely used trading apps on Solana. It started as an aggregator: when you swap one token for another, it checks many trading venues and routes your order to get the best price. It has since added leveraged trading (perpetual futures), lending, a token launch platform and, in January 2026, a dollar stablecoin called JupUSD.
JUP is the governance token, launched in early 2024. Holders vote through the Jupiter DAO, and the project has used half of its on-chain revenue to buy back JUP. The supply cap was cut from 10 billion to 7 billion after holders approved a 30% burn.
Jupiter's governance has been bumpy. In June 2025 the team paused DAO voting, citing a breakdown in trust in the process. In February 2026 holders approved a plan to pause new JUP emissions and future airdrops, including the annual "Jupuary" giveaway, cutting expected new token issuance to near zero. The business itself is busy and earns real fees; the question for token holders is how much of that ends up supporting JUP.
What can go wrong
- Value depends on the team continuing buybacks and keeping its promises on emissions, both of which can be changed.
- Governance has been paused before, and the team retains significant influence over the DAO.
- Jupiter's business is tied to Solana trading activity, which swings sharply with meme coin cycles.
- Strong competition from other Solana trading apps and wallets that offer built-in swaps.
- Some early stakeholders are still vesting tokens and could sell.

A busy app and a rising token are not the same thing; check how revenue reaches JUP holders (currently through buybacks) before assuming one follows the other.
Safety checks
- Track recordCautionTrading since 2024, about 2 years. It hasn't been through a full market cycle yet, so treat its history as short.
- Trading activityGood$76.1 million traded in the last 24 hours, 7.3% of its market value. That's enough activity that a normal-size order shouldn't move the price.
- Coins still to comeRed flag3.32 billion of 10.00 billion maximum coins are in circulation, so about 67% are still to be released. A large share hasn't been released yet. Unlocks for insiders and early backers are a common reason prices fall.
- Distance from its peakRed flagDown 84% from its all-time high of $2.00 in January 2024. Most people who bought near the top have lost most of their money. A big drop doesn't make a coin cheap.
- Past yearFor context−12.3% over the past year, against −25.3% for bitcoin. It has held up better than bitcoin.
