What it is
Injective is a blockchain built specifically for trading and finance apps. It has built-in pieces, such as an order book and tools for creating markets, that developers can plug into rather than building from scratch. Apps on Injective offer spot trading, derivatives and tokenized versions of traditional assets.
INJ is used to pay fees, to stake and secure the network, and to vote on governance. Its best-known feature is a system for destroying tokens. For years, Injective has run a burn auction: fees collected from apps are pooled, people bid for that pool using INJ, and the winning INJ is permanently destroyed. Starting in late 2025 it added a monthly community buyback, where users commit INJ to be burned in exchange for a share of ecosystem revenue. Governance approved combining these into one program.
The burns are meant to offset the new INJ created as staking rewards. Whether total supply actually shrinks depends on how much trading happens on Injective apps. When activity is low, burns are small. That makes the burn figures worth watching month to month rather than taking them as a fixed feature.
What can go wrong
- The burn story only works if apps on Injective generate real trading fees; low activity means little is burned.
- The ecosystem is small compared with major chains, and a few apps produce most of the activity.
- Competes with large exchanges and well-funded trading chains such as Hyperliquid and Solana-based venues.
- Derivatives and tokenized stock products bring regulatory exposure that ordinary token projects avoid.

When a project advertises token burns, compare the amount burned with the amount newly created; a burn is only meaningful if it outweighs issuance.
Safety checks
- Track recordGoodTrading since 2020, about 6 years. It has been through at least one full market cycle.
- Trading activityGood$130.8 million traded in the last 24 hours, 15% of its market value. That's enough activity that a normal-size order shouldn't move the price.
- Coins still to comeGood100.0 million of 100.0 million total coins are in circulation, so about 0% or less are still to be released. Little new supply is left to hit the market. There is no fixed maximum, so new coins can keep being created.
- Distance from its peakRed flagDown 84% from its all-time high of $52.62 in March 2024. Most people who bought near the top have lost most of their money. A big drop doesn't make a coin cheap.
- Past yearFor context−2.6% over the past year, against −25.3% for bitcoin. It has held up better than bitcoin.
History of trouble and big events
- October 2020: INJ launched through an exchange token sale.
- Late 2025: Monthly community buyback-and-burn program began.
